Recent research reveals a critical tension in generative AI use: while these tools can improve measurable writing outcomes, they may simultaneously diminish student creativity, agency, and learner autonomy. A 2025 study documented students' reported "loss of creativity and agency" and reduced "ideal L2 writing self," resulting in problematic overreliance on AI assistance. Join Dr. Joshua Paiz (Frederick Community College) as he addresses this pedagogical challenge head-on. Moving beyond binary questions of AI adoption, this webinar presents research-based, "human-in-the-loop" frameworks designed to reposition generative AI as a cognitive stimulator rather than a substitute for learner development. Participants will explore concrete strategies to ensure AI tools augment—rather than undermine—students' critical thinking and authentic voice.
